Greetings, Macedonia Family and Friends!!
For any number of reasons, many of us have stood or are standing at a crossroad in life — Should I send my children to school? Should I return to work? Should I attend a church service? Should I go out or continue to stay home? Should I do this? Or should I do that? What to do? WHAT TO DO??!!! Well, for today, I want to take you back to the basics — STOP! LOOK!! LISTEN!! Stop trying to handle it on your own. Stop carrying the weight of the decision or of the world on your shoulders! Stop running here and there, ricocheting from this to that, or even him to her. Just STOP! Be still! Then LOOK! Seek God! Recognizing and acknowledging our human limitation, we must look to God. Ask Him to order our steps, to be a light unto our paths. Then we must LISTEN for His voice. Position ourselves where we can hear from Him.
There’s an old Negro hymn (a slave song) that said “Hush. HUSH!! Somebody’s calling my name. Oh, my Lord. Oh, my Lord. What shall I do?” What stands out in this verse is the need for quiet! Clear the clutter! Cease the clamor! Enter into a quietness of spirit and hearken unto His voice — not just with your ears, but also with your heart and actions. In Isaiah 30:21, God told the Israelites, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying This is the way, walk in it.” The Holy Spirit now lives within us and speaks to us, but we still have to hear it in order to heed it.
Are you facing a fork in the road, a feeling in the pit of your stomach? Which way will you go? What choice will you make? Your heart rate increases. Your breathing changes. And right before you make your decision, in that microcosm of a second... everything stops. It’s during that fleeting moment that we can hear from the Holy Spirit.
Vacation Bible School continues until tomorrow. Then on Thursday, it begins for our Children and Teens. I pray you have participated. I pray your children do also. I’m sure there are blessings in store for you! There will be no Bible Study, tomorrow.
Please hear me my Sisters and Brothers! Jesus is the Way. He is our guide, our path, and our constant companion. God will never leave nor forsake us. In the midst of it all, let’s return to what we were taught as children when crossing the street — STOP... LOOK... LISTEN. It’s the safest way to make it home! May God continue to bless and keep you all!
Peace & Love,
John L. Brooks
